How to highlight with bullet?

PowerPoint 2002 (XP) introduces motion paths. Using motion paths, we would highlight the points with a bullet on each mouse click.

Step 1: Create a bulleted list

For the purpose of the tutorial, we would use a slide with Title and Text layout. Fill the Text placeholder with some text items.

Step 2: Remove the bullets

Remove the bullets from the bulleted list:

  1. Select Format | Bullets and Numbering... menu item.
  2. On the Bullet tab, select None box.
  3. Click OK.

This leaves us with only the text items.

Step 3: Create a triangle shape that can serve as a bullet

Set the Change Font Color entrance effect on the Text placeholder:

  1. Select the Text placeholder.
  2. Select Slide Show | Custom Animation... menu item.
  3. On the Custom Animation pane, click Add Effect | Emphasis | Change Font Color menu item.

Step 3: Set the emphasis effect to occur on mouse click only

In this last step, we would setup the emphasis effect to apply to individual bullets one at a time:

  1. Click the dropdown box of the effect in the Custom Animation pane.
  2. Select Effect Options... menu item.
  3. Select solid color in Style box - the same as that in Font color box.
  4. Select the Timing tab.
  5. Select Until Next Click in the Repeat box.
  6. Click OK.

Start the slide show. The bullets will show one at a time on each mouse click. The presentation file that demonstrates these steps is available hereDownload.
